Another Poor Cooling Thread.

Postby Z2TT » Tue Dec 06, 2011 2:49 pm

Hello.

Got a import, Toyota Soarer with a Nippondenso system. TXV System.
When I gassed it up, started car and low side was doing weird things.

Going from 35 upto 45 then down to 35 and then somehow settled at 40-45
at idle. High side was about 250 going upto 300. Cooling hardly anything, felt the low side
pipe and well it was the slightest bit "cool". Ambient temp was 93F

Bought the revs upto 1500, Low side dropped to 35, and cooling at the vents
was slightly cool, low side pipe felt a little bit colder. I sprayed some water
on the condenser and it bought both high and low temperatures down a bit.
Got the low side down to 30 psi, but cooling was just slightly cool, not nice and
cold like i'd expect.

Where should I start, Would there be something wrong with compressor or txv valve maybe?
Should I hook up gauges again and anything to look for or things to try?

Cheers.

How did you determine the amount of charge?

Any history on this car?

Hi,

It's my own car. It previously cooled good If I can remember, I had to change the compressor with another one because it was leaky,
this compressor that I just put in seemed to have good suction and output just testing it on the bench, so it didn't seem to be a dud.
But just cannot figure out why cooling is pretty much zero at idle and not that good when cruising.

I measured the charge with a scale, never failed me before using the amount I always did, I even tried adding a bit more refrigerant over
the amount I usually put in just incase something went wrong with scale but did not make any difference.

I can't find much on this car? What is any known system capacity?

Scale is fine if you trust it and adding more isn't going to help and in fact with pressures so high and performance so marginal seems overcharged now,

First, check if you have the specified charge. If so, you may have to replace the TXV and the drier to correct this behavior.
