how much oil should i add

Postby kresi on Wed Jan 20, 2010 10:03 am

Hi!
I had a leak at one of the hose connections that i fixed. Now I want to vacuum pump the system and recharge it. It is a 2003 Ford Taurus.

How much PAG oil should I add?
I don't want (or I don't know how) to take the compressor out to pour out and measure the oil that is still in there.

The total compressor oil capacity is 7 ounces of PAG oil 46.
Thanks

Kresi,

That amount you listed is system capacity not just what's in the compressor as oil is moving along thru the system. How much to add for a given leak is guess work. Is there a big oily mess where the leak was? If not I'd suggest you are safe to add 2oz of specified PAG for the vehicle. Keep track as if a couple more happen over time you don't want it too full of oil or too low and the only way to know exactly is to start with it all out which for just a connection leak now isn't called for IMO,

I thought adding 2 oz would be sufficient.

Thanks
