?'s about r12 replacements /conversion

I have a classic car that sees less than 100 miles a year, it only has 450 miles on it and was mde in 76. It came with a r12 system the car is basicly all original. It over the last 30 years lost most of it's refrigerant. I was hoping to do a drop in replacement for the simplicity, but realize there are drawbacks. I don't want a fire! Is there a relatively safe replacement so I wont have to change out the entire ac system (not an option), it's basically an AMC system with a york compressor and expansion valve.

I would say no to "replacement" refrigerants, and with the cost of R134a now, I would find a shop to recharge the car with R12..Just my opinion.. If not, then a conversion to R134a done correctly would be the way to go..If the system is empty, and needs any leaks fixed etc..I do suggest you change the drier..Those old driers pop the disciant bags when you convert to another refrigerant, and sometimes even when recharged. Newer driers are safer. ..Hope this helps..
